Chandigarh roads to be restricted; advisory issued amidst Rajnath Singh rally

The road stretches around Exhibition Ground, Sector 34 shall remain restricted for the general public.

Chandigarh police Thursday issued a traffic advisory for the general public urging them to avoid certain routes for the next two days in view of a BJP rally to be addressed by the Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh at Sector 34, Exhibition Ground on Saturday.

Police will conduct a rehearsal along the entire route on Friday. The routes will not be open between 5 pm to 8 pm when Rajnath Singh is said to address the rally.

Chandigarh BJP President, Arun Sood, said, “Around 1 lakh people are expected to attend the rally. The party has made adequate arrangements.”Sources said, “It is an election rally for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024.”

According to the UT traffic police, traffic would be diverted at Kali Bari Light Point, Sector 31/32-46/47 Chowk, Sector 32/33-45/46 Chowk and 33/34-44/45 Chowk on Shanti Path and from 33/34-44/45 Chowk towards 33/34 Light Point on Sarovar Path on the day of rehearsal and during the movement of the VVIP on Saturday.

The road stretches around Exhibition Ground, Sector 34 shall remain restricted for the general public. These stretches are included from New Labour Chowk (Sector 33/34-20/21 Chowk) up to Burail Chowk (Sector 33/34-44/45 Chowk) on Sarovar Path.

From Sector 33/34 Light Point up to Gurudwara Sahib, Sector 34. c. Further, traffic movement may be restricted on some internal roads of sector 34 in view of VVIP visit.

Traffic police has requested to avoid the above mentioned stretches of road from 5 pm to 8 pm on Saturday and from 3 pm to 4.30 pm on Friday.

The guests are requested to approach the place of function at Exhibition Ground, Sector 34 from 34/35 Light Point towards Director Health Service turn (DHS), Punjab and park their vehicles in the Kachi parking near Central Library, Sector 34 in front of Gurudwara Sahib Sector 34.

The general public is requested to approach the place of function at Exhibition Ground, Sector 34 and park their vehicles in open ground in front of Shyam Mall, Sector 34. Further, they requested to follow the Social Media Account of Chandigarh Traffic Police for real time updates on traffic.

It was also informed that strict action will be taken and vehicles will be towed away if vehicles are parked on cycle track or pedestrian pathway and no parking area.
